Tobacco Banned in Bhutan

Bhutan prohibits tobacco products; therefore, you cannot have access to tobacco in Bhutan. However, you are allowed to bring your own tobacco, but there are costs to pay at the entrance and strict adherence to tobacco use regulations.

Tourists are permitted to import used personal clothing and everyday commodities, such as cigarettes, tobacco, and alcoholic beverages, free of customs duties, provided that they meet the following limits:

  • Two cartons of cigarettes are subject to a 100% sales tax.
  • Cigars: 50 pieces or two boxes are subject to a 100% sales tax and 100% customs charge.
