Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you’ll be greeted by your guide and driven to Thimphu, which takes about 1.5 hours. In Thimphu, visit the majestic Tashichho Dzong, the seat of Bhutan’s government, and explore the Folk Heritage Museum and National Textile Museum to learn about Bhutan’s rich culture. After breakfast, drive to Punakha, a 3-hour journey via the Dochula Pass, where you’ll stop to admire the 108 Druk Wangyel Chortens and enjoy panoramic views of the Himalayas. Today, drive to the serene Phobjikha Valley, a glacial valley known for its natural beauty and as the winter home of the endangered black-necked cranes. Visit the Gangtey Monastery, perched on a hill overlooking the valley, and walk the Gangtey Nature Trail, a scenic hike through forests and meadows. Spend the evening soaking in the tranquility of the valley. Overnight in Phobjikha.
Depart early for Bumthang, a 6-7 hour drive through picturesque landscapes. En route, stop at Trongsa Dzong, one of Bhutan’s most impressive fortresses, and visit the Ta Dzong Museum to learn about Bhutan’s history. Upon arrival in Bumthang, explore Jakar Dzong, the "Castle of the White Bird," and stroll around the town to visit local shops. Overnight in Bumthang.
Spend the day exploring Bumthang’s cultural and natural treasures. Visit Jambay Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples, and Kurjey Lhakhang, where Guru Rinpoche meditated. Hike to Tamshing Lhakhang, known for its ancient murals, and visit Mebar Tsho (Burning Lake), a sacred pilgrimage site. End the day with a visit to a local farmhouse to experience traditional Bhutanese life. Overnight in Bumthang.
Drive to the picturesque Ura Valley, a 1.5-hour journey through lush landscapes. Explore the Ura Village, known for its traditional stone-paved streets and unique architecture. Visit Ura Lhakhang and interact with locals to learn about their way of life. Enjoy a leisurely nature walk through the valley’s serene surroundings. Overnight in Ura Valley.
Today, drive to Mongar, a 6-7 hour journey crossing the Thrumshing La Pass (3,800m), where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Himalayas and lush valleys. Upon arrival, visit Mongar Dzong, a relatively modern fortress, and explore the local market to interact with residents. Overnight in Mongar.
Drive to Trashigang, the largest town in Eastern Bhutan, which takes about 3-4 hours. Visit Trashigang Dzong, perched on a hill overlooking the town, and explore the local market and handicraft shops. Spend the afternoon visiting a nearby village to experience traditional Eastern Bhutanese culture. Overnight in Trashigang.
Drive to Trashiyangtse, a serene valley known for its art and culture, which takes about 2 hours. Visit Chorten Kora, a stupa resembling Nepal’s Boudhanath, and explore the Institute for Zorig Chusum, where traditional arts and crafts are taught. Later, visit the Bomdeling Wildlife Sanctuary, home to the endangered black-necked cranes. Overnight in Trashiyangtse.
On the final day, drive to Samdrup Jongkhar, a town near the Indian border, which takes about 67 hours. Visit Dewathang, a historical site associated with the Bhutanese victory over British forces, and explore the local market..
