Daywise Itinerary

Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will be greeted by your guide and driver. After completing immigration and visa formalities, you will drive to Thimphu, a scenic journey of 1.5 hours (55 km). The drive offers beautiful views of the Paro Valley and the winding Paro River. After arriving in Thimphu, you will visit the Buddha Dordenma Statue, a monumental 169-foot-tall bronze statue of Buddha Shakyamuni. You will also explore Tashichho Dzong, the majestic fortress that serves as the seat of Bhutan’s government, and stop by the Thimphu Craft Bazaar, where local artisans sell handmade goods. In the evening, you can take a leisurely walk along Norzin Lam Street and enjoy a traditional Bhutanese dinner at a local restaurant. Overnight in Thimphu.

On the second day, you will start by visiting the National Memorial Chorten, followed by the Folk Heritage Museum. Next, you will stop by the School of Arts and Crafts (Zorig Chusum), where students learn Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts. Afterward, head to the Motithang Takin Preserve to see Bhutan’s national animal, the Takin. Then, visit Changangkha Lhakhang, a 12th-century temple offering panoramic views of Thimphu Valley. In the morning, you will depart for Punakha, a 2.5-hour drive (75 km). The journey takes you through the Dochula Pass (3,100 meters), where you can enjoy stunning views of the Himalayan range. After reaching Punakha, you will visit the Punakha Dzong, also known as the "Palace of Great Happiness," and then take a short hike through rice fields to visit Chimi Lhakhang, a fertility temple. In the evening, enjoy a peaceful moment by the riverside or explore Punakha town. Overnight in Punakha.

In the morning, you will drive to Phobjikha Valley, a stunning glacial valley, known for its landscapes and as the winter home of the endangered black-necked cranes. The drive takes approximately 3 hours (85 km). Upon arrival, you will visit Gangtey Monastery, a 17th-century spiritual center, and then explore the Crane Information Center to learn about the black-necked cranes and their conservation efforts. You will take a leisurely walk through the valley, soaking in the peaceful surroundings. In the evening, you will check into a traditional farmhouse in Phobjikha, where you’ll be welcomed with suja (butter tea) and zaw (puffed rice). You will also participate in a traditional Bhutanese cooking class with the farmhouse family, learning to prepare dishes like ema datshi (chili and cheese stew) and kewa datshi (potato and cheese stew). Enjoy a hearty homemade dinner with the family. Overnight at the farmhouse in Phobjikha.

Wake up to the serene views of the valley and enjoy a traditional Bhutanese breakfast. Join the farmhouse family in their daily activities, such as feeding livestock, milking cows, or working in the fields, depending on the season. You will also take a guided nature walk through the valley, spotting birds and enjoying the pristine environment. In the afternoon, visit a local cheese factory (if operational) to see how traditional Bhutanese cheese is made. Afterward, return to the farmhouse for a lunch of local delicacies. Spend the afternoon learning traditional Bhutanese crafts like weaving or archery from the locals. In the evening, relax by the fireplace and enjoy storytelling sessions with the family, followed by a traditional Bhutanese dinner, accompanied by ara (local rice wine). After bidding farewell to your farmhouse family, you will drive back to Paro, a 6-hour drive (180 km). Upon arrival in Paro, you will visit the National Museum of Bhutan, housed in a historic watchtower above Paro Dzong. Then, explore Paro Rinpung Dzong, a fortress-monastery that serves as the administrative and religious center of Paro. You will also walk across the traditional wooden bridge to the dzong. In the evening, stroll through Paro town and visit local shops for handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs. Overnight in Paro.

In the morning, you will embark on a hike to the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang Palphug Monastery), one of Bhutan’s most famous landmarks. The hike takes about 2-3 hours uphill, with stops at viewpoints and a cafeteria halfway up. Once at the monastery, you will explore the temples and caves, learning about their spiritual significance. After descending, you will enjoy lunch at the cafeteria or a nearby restaurant. In the afternoon, you will visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples. In the evening, reflect on your journey and enjoy a farewell dinner with traditional Bhutanese music and dance. Overnight in Paro.

On your final day, you will be transferred to Paro International Airport for your departure, bidding farewell to the Land of the Thunder Dragon, taking with your unforgettable memories.
