This unique cultural tour takes you to Merak and Sakteng, two remote villages in Bhutan’s eastern region, home to the Brokpa people. Known for their distinct nomadic lifestyle, traditional yak herding, and vibrant customs, this journey offers an authentic experience of Bhutanese culture in one of the country’s least-explored areas.
Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, you will meet your local guide and begin your journey in Bhutan. You will visit Rinpung Dzong, an impressive fortress overlooking the Paro River, followed by a visit to Ta Dzong (National Museum) to learn about Bhutanese history and culture. The next stop is Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest and most sacred temples.
In the afternoon, you will drive to Thimphu (55 km, 1.5 hours). On the way, you will stop at Tamchog Lhakhang Iron Bridge, built by the great architect Thangtong Gyalpo, and later visit Buddha Dordenma, a 51-meter-tall golden Buddha statue overlooking the valley.
In the evening, you will explore Thimphu’s Craft Bazaar and try local delicacies like ema datshi (chili cheese).

In the morning, you can either take a domestic flight to Yonphula (Trashigang) or choose to drive overland via Bumthang, stopping at scenic spots along the way.
If flying, you will land at Yonphula Airport and drive to Trashigang, the largest town in eastern Bhutan. You will visit Trashigang Dzong, which overlooks the Dangme Chhu River.

After breakfast, you will begin your journey to Merak, a remote Brokpa village in eastern Bhutan. The drive is about 4–5 hours (50 km) through breathtaking valleys and mountain passes.
Upon arrival in Merak (Altitude: 3,500m), you will explore the Merak village and meet the Brokpa nomads, known for their unique culture, yak-herding lifestyle, and vibrant attire. In the afternoon, you will visit Merak Lhakhang, a sacred monastery of the region. In the evening, enjoy a cultural performance by the Brokpa people, featuring traditional folk songs and dances.
Overnight in Merak (Local Homestay or Camp).
In the morning, you will start a scenic trek from Merak to Sakteng, covering about 20 km in 6–7 hours. The trek takes you through pristine forests, alpine meadows, and the Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary, home to rare species like the red panda and the Himalayan monal pheasant.
By afternoon, you will arrive in Sakteng (Altitude: 2,900m), a village rich in Brokpa culture. After settling in, you will explore Sakteng village, visiting Sakteng Lhakhang, a sacred temple of the region.
Overnight in Sakteng (Local Homestay or Camp).
Spend the day exploring Sakteng, immersing yourself in Brokpa traditions. You will witness yak herding, traditional Brokpa attire, and their unique way of life.
In the afternoon, you will enjoy a cultural performance by the Brokpa community, featuring traditional dances, songs, and storytelling. You will also have the opportunity to taste local cuisine, including yak butter tea and homemade cheese.
Overnight in Sakteng (Local Homestay or Camp).
In the morning, you will drive back to Trashigang, covering 100 km in about 6–7 hours. Along the way, you will pass through beautiful valleys, dense forests, and mountain passes.
Upon arrival in Trashigang, you will relax and explore the town, visiting the local markets for handwoven textiles and handicrafts.
Overnight in Trashigang.
You will take a domestic flight from Yonphula to Paro, or if you choose to travel overland, you will drive back through Bumthang and central Bhutan, stopping overnight along the way if needed.
In the evening, you will visit Paro Town, explore traditional handicraft shops, or relax in a local café.
Overnight in Paro.
In the morning, you will hike 4–5 hours to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang), Bhutan’s most iconic monastery, perched on a cliff 900 meters above the Paro Valley. You will learn about Guru Rinpoche, who meditated here in the 8th century.
In the afternoon, after the hike, you can relax with a traditional Bhutanese hot stone bath or explore Paro’s local markets.
